Burton said he got a bit down about the movie business lately. He lost his way for a while. But this new film brought back his love for making movies. He just wanted to have fun with it.
The first Beetlejuice came out way back in 1988. Fans have been asking for a sequel ever since. Burton took his time because he wasn’t sure why people liked the first one so much.
For the new movie, Burton went back to how he made the original. They did things fast and made stuff up as they went along. He thinks this gave the movie more energy.
The movie looks like it might make a lot of money when it comes out. People think it could make $65-80 million in its first weekend in North America.
Lots of actors from the first movie are back. Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara all returned. Some new actors joined too, like Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe.
The story is about Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder. She’s now a TV psychic who goes back to her old house. Jenna Ortega plays her daughter who doesn’t believe in ghosts.
Burton said making the TV show Wednesday got him excited about movies again. He also really liked working with Jenna Ortega on that show.
He made this new Beetlejuice movie for personal reasons, not just to make money. But don’t expect a third Beetlejuice anytime soon. Burton joked he’d be over 100 years old by then!
